Hello, an article in the newspaper about a student who attended The Davidson Academy recently caught my eye and my thoughts immediately concluded towards my son, who is gifted but also is autistic and has ADD. I was wondering if that excludes him from your selection process and if it has any effect on his admission process. Also, are there any children who attend the Davidson Academy who have special needs but are also gifted? Thank you.

It’s very difficult for us to answer questions about the goodness-of-fit of a prospective student for the Academy without the benefit of reviewing information within the context of a complete application. As a public school, the Academy expects to serve students with differing educational needs. All Academy students have a personalized learning plan that is used to set and monitor their academic and overall goals. In addition to this, it is possible for students to qualify for an IEP or a Section 504 plan as needed.
